Make a little muslima doll

Today's quote:
❝When life put's you in tough situations,
 don't say: "why me?"
Say: Try me!" ❞

Isn't it exiting when you find toys which you can actually call "Religious"?
Like f.ex that barbie doll called "Fulla". She wears her headscarf, and abaya. Little girls can play with this barbie doll regardless of religion. Don't we buy dolls which look Indian? Afro-American, or Afrikan? Also Asian or European. So why would it be strange if a kid played with a barbie doll that wears hijab? :)

There are even barbie dolls dressed like nuns :)

Have you ever tried making a little muslim doll out of fabric, rice and beads? I have and they turn out very very sweet. The best part is that they are very easily made :)

what you need is to cut out a circle from a peace of fabric (whichever color of skin you want). And you sew a stich around the edge, just like shown on the pic below:

Pull the thread and the circle will automatically shrink into a baggy-shape.  This makes it easier for you to fill it with grains of rice.

When you have filled it enough, start closing the hole by sewing it together so that you shape a little ball and don't worry about the edges of the fabric sticking out. This comes as a little knot back under the hijab.

Now You want to give her an outfit. I prefer to give my dolls abaya, as it is easier to make and also it gives it a proper Islamic look :)
So you start by choosing your fabric, and then you cut out a shape which looks like the drawing below. Make sure you add some beads or tinsels if you want the abaya beautified, before you sew it all together :

Now you will fold the upper part of the figure, on top of the lower part, just right in the middle, so that it covers the beads or tinsels, like so:
Now you will sew the two parts together, leaving the bottom if u like and the end of the sleeves:

The following step is a little funny. Turn the dress outside in again so that the pattern is facing outwards, and  You will basically have to sew the head onto the dress, by attaching it from the inside:

Now is a good timing for you to add a face to the doll. You can use beads if you like. You can use thread or even draw a face on it. When you have done so, you will start making the hijab (head scarf).
The easisest type of headscarf is the triangle one. You choose your favorite color and you cut out a triangle. I would not recomend materials which need over-lock as the products are tiny.
So start by cutting out a triangle out of fabric. Make sure it covers the doll's head well, and give it a longer tail on the back so that it "falls down the back". Also  find a lace and cut a little bit from it as to ad a little "under hat" before you add the hijab. It gives it all a sweeter look :)

You will now attach the lace and the hijab to the head of the doll. Sew it on with a thread which wont be visible on the fabric. Make sure you sew it under the chin of the doll and perhaps in the neck:
Now you want to add some hands to her body. I used two flat circle bead:
I put them inside the dolls sleeves so that the holes are pointing vertically. I leave them peeking out of the sleeves so that they are visible. You simply just thread the needle through the fabric and through the beads like so:

Now you can either choose to leave the hijab as it is or you can design it how you wish. I chose to lift one of the tails and bring it up to the doll's shoulder as i attached it with thread and a bead.

And there you have your doll :) I use it as a charm on my keys :) and it looks  like this :

I've also made other dolls, and old them for charity. This was very easy and fun to make.
